Who was Shabari?
It is said that Shabari belonged to the Bhil caste. In this caste, animals were sacrificed for good deeds. She has been a devotee of Lord Rama since childhood. In the morning, she used to worship and fast for Ram Ji.
When her marriage was finalized then goats and buffaloes were brought for sacrifice. To save the lives of these animals, she decided not to get married and left the house.
On the way, she also saw an ashram but could not muster the courage to go inside. At that time, Matang Rishi came there and asked Shabari about her aim . After much thought, he allowed her to come to the ashram. In a few days, she became beloved by everyone with her devotion to Ram and good behavior. For many years she served Matang Rishi as her father. But one day, the weak body of Matang Rishi left him. But before that, he went to bless Shabri that she would definitely see Lord Rama one day.
Many years passed. Shabri used to lay flowers on the way every day and would arrange the bhog. In the hope that Lord Ram will definitely come to meet with her. And, one day Lord Rama reached the ashram of Matang Rishi in search of Mother Sita. A sage placed Ram ji and gave a voice to Shabri. He said with a voice that the God whom you worship day and night has come to the ashram himself. Come and serve Ram ji with full heart.
In order to feed sweet berry to her God, she started tasting them. Started giving good and sweet beers to Ram Ji and throwing the sour beers. Lord Ram became fascinated by this devotion of Shabari. But Ram ji's brother Lakshmana was surprised to see why brother is eating the false one. On this, Lord Rama explained the symptoms that these shows devotional of Shabri and the love in it towards her master.
